Cocoa Beach is located in Florida and is known as the Space Coast. The City of Cocoa Beach was established on June 5, 1925, and was incorporated as a City on June 29, 1957. Cocoa became popular in the 60s with the rise of the space program. Kennedy Space Center is located just a short 15 miles away. Many of the families worked in the space program also lived and played at Cocoa Beach. The other claim to fame is Cocoa Beach was the setting for I Dream of Jeannie, however, only one episode was actually filmed there.
Cocoa Beach is home to Ron Jon’s surf shop. Check out our article about Ron Jon’s here. It also has the historic downtown Cocoa Village which has lots of wonderful shops.
One of my favorite stops in Cocoa Beach is the pier. The pier is a historic landmark and stretches 800 feet. You can grab a drink at the new Rikki Tiki Tavern at the end of the pier. It is a beautiful spot to watch the pelicans, dolphins and all of the surfers. The pier has hosted many surfing competitions and is known as the surf capital of the East Coast.
