Counter Culture Coffee’s Tasting at Ten

If you’re a coffee lover in the Triangle, Counter Culture Coffee’s Tasting at Ten is an experience worth adding to your list. Every Friday at 10 a.m., Counter Culture Coffee opens its doors to the community for a free coffee tasting and educational session. We had the chance to attend one recently at their Durham HQ, and it was an eye-opening experience that gave us a whole new appreciation for the craft behind every cup.

A Deep Dive into Coffee at Counter Culture

Counter Culture Coffee is known for its commitment to transparency, sustainability, and education in the specialty coffee world. Their Tasting at Ten sessions are designed to introduce people to new single-origin coffees, help them develop their tasting skills, and provide insights into the coffee-growing and roasting processes.

On our visit, we got to try Valle Inca, a single-origin coffee from Cusco, Peru. As we gathered around with other attendees, a Counter Culture educator walked us through the story behind this coffee—where it comes from, how it’s grown, and the meticulous process that ensures its quality.

Tasting Valle Inca

One of the most exciting parts of the event was the guided tasting. Valle Inca was bright and balanced, with citrusy notes, mild sweetness, and a smooth finish. It’s the kind of coffee that feels refreshing and complex without being overpowering.

During the tasting, we were encouraged to pay close attention to the aroma, acidity, body, and aftertaste—breaking down the flavors in a way that helped us better understand what makes a great cup of coffee. It was a fun and interactive experience, and even if you don’t consider yourself a coffee connoisseur, the session was welcoming and accessible to all levels of experience.

Why You Should Attend

Beyond the coffee itself, Tasting at Ten is a great way to immerse yourself in the coffee community. The event is casual, engaging, and perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about what goes into their daily cup. Whether you’re a casual coffee drinker or a true aficionado, it’s a unique opportunity to explore new coffees, expand your palate, and connect with others who appreciate high-quality brews.

If you’re in the Triangle area and love coffee, make plans to visit Counter Culture Coffee in Durham for Tasting at Ten. It’s a great way to start your Friday, discover something new, and gain a deeper appreciation for specialty coffee.
