Huntington Beach State Park is one of those places where bird watching feels easy, even if you are not a serious birder.
We brought our Nocs Provisions Field Issue Compact 8×32 Waterproof Binoculars, and they were perfect for the park and kids — small enough to carry around, but strong enough to make the marsh, trails, and causeway much more interesting.
On this visit, we spotted a Red-winged Blackbird, a Roseate Spoonbill, herons, and plenty of other birds moving through the water and reeds. The spoonbill was the showstopper, but the fun was really in slowing down, scanning the marsh, and seeing what appeared next.
That is what makes Huntington Beach such a great stop. You can come for the beach, Atalaya, or the trails, and still end up with a mini birding adventure along the way.
The binoculars made it easy to share the experience, especially as a family. A quick walk became a nature scavenger hunt, and the park felt even more alive because of it.
