One of the most enjoyable additions to our backyard lately has been the new Birdfy 2 Smart Bird Feeder and honestly, it has been even better than expected.
Rather than mounting it traditionally, I decided to build a custom setup using a post secured inside a flower pot, which gave the feeder a stable base while blending naturally into the yard. The setup has worked surprisingly well and has already started attracting a growing list of visitors.
So far we’ve spotted: Carolina Wrens, House Finches, Northern Cardinals, and Swamp Sparrows.
The Birdfy camera has done a great job identifying birds and capturing surprisingly clear close-up video. It’s one thing to see birds from the kitchen window, but being able to watch detailed footage of their behavior, colors, and personalities from just a few feet away adds a completely different experience.

One unexpected benefit has been how relaxing it is. Checking the feeder notifications has become a nice break during the day, and it’s quickly turning into a fun way to learn more about the birds already living around us.
The custom flower pot mount has also held up well so far and gives the feeder a cleaner, more intentional look than simply sticking a pole in the ground. It keeps the feeder stable while making it easy to position exactly where we wanted it for both visibility and camera angles.
We’re looking forward to seeing what shows up next as more birds discover the feeder. With migration seasons changing throughout the year, there’s a good chance this is only the beginning.
