Through a mostly nondescript doorway on St. George Street in St. Augustine is one of the most beautiful shrines I’ve ever seen. We decided to check it out and despite solidly hitting my head on a low doorway the experience was awesome. We wandered in to explore and were pleasantly surprised by what we found.
The St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine, an institution of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, is dedicated to the first colony of Greek people who came to America in 1768.
There are probably a lot more hidden gems like this in St. Augustine and even other places but this is the one we found today. Guess it is just another reminder that when you see a small door with a sign it is sometimes worthwhile to walk in and check things out you might find something amazing.
