If you live less than four miles from most downtown areas you don’t expect to have much wildlife diversity other than the occasional raccoon or feral cat. Fortunately in Raleigh you can live this close to downtown and still have a herd of Whitetail Deer and a Great Blue Heron living in your backyard. I’d like to think of it as the best of both worlds. Tonight at the peak of sunset I was able to catch both at our neighborhood’s retention pond. Maybe this is a hopeful sign of Spring.
