This is a bird’s-eye view of the current progress on the Gipson Play Plaza. The City broke ground on this exciting project in summer 2022, aiming to create a vibrant and inclusive space for all ages. The plaza will feature unique play areas, artistic installations, a civic plaza, fountains, and beautiful gardens. This area has come a long way since we checked in last in June 2023.
Some of the standout play features include a sensory maze, a water play mountain, a swing terrace, and an adventure playground.
In addition, there will be a picnic grove for cookouts and gatherings, and the historic House of Many Porches will offer snacks and rocking chairs for relaxation.
Thanks to a generous $10 million donation from Pat and Tom Gipson, construction began in fall 2022. Now, a year into the project, significant progress has been made, with many foundational elements already taking shape. The project is expected to be completed in two and a half years.
