Along with the short-term residency of Austrian artist collective OMAi, the Museum is hosting a temporary installation of their large-scale projections outside. Enjoy a summer night under the stars viewing their unique digitally animated graffiti. Their projections will be displayed on a wall of East Building.
If you didn’t get a chance to see this live at the North Carolina Museum of Art all I can say is I hope it comes back soon. I could explain but not as well as watching the video. The idea of digital graffiti is fascinating and something that I hope to see more of both at NCMA and in other places. (We did get a tip that this fall the group may be back at another site in Raleigh.) The size and scale are impressive and the interactive element is extremely engaging. Yes – some of the scenes are a lot more graffiti and others are more traditional art work. Both work well with the music selections and really immerse the viewer into the art.
I uploaded this video first thing this morning and got the expected YouTube copyright email almost immediately. The video includes music from The Clash (London Calling), The Cure (Fascination Street), Depeche Mode (Behind The Wheel) and ‘Til Tuesday (Voices Carry). The original cut also had Nena (99 Luftballons) and A Flock of Seagulls (I Ran So Far Away) and both were blocked in some countries with the latter being blocked worldwide. My YouTube account is not monetized so if you are seeing ads they are benefitting either The Clash, The Cure, Depeche Mode or ‘Till Tuesday. All things being equal – not a bad deal for you or them. I guess the other artists aren’t interested in making money.
