Food. Culture. Community. THRIVE NC

We cover lots of things related to food in Raleigh but nearly one in seven Triangle residents faced limited or uncertain availability of nutritious food. There are a great group of people trying to do something about this issue here.

First of all take a look at A Place at the Table. The concept is awesome. It is a pay what you can café that recently opened in Raleigh. So how does it work? You have a few different options:

  • Pay what you can afford.
  • Pay what you would typically pay for a similar meal. (They have a suggested donation)
  • Pay what you would typically pay, plus an extra donation.
  • Pay specifically for someone else’s full meal.
  • Pay by volunteering.

Check out the details from our visit to A Place at the Table.

Today the folks at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina contributed to a Place at the Table that will provide 20 meals per day for 365 days to those in need. What an awesome way to support a great cause in the community.

They are also putting on an event in May called Thrive NC. It will be a two-day food festival on May 10 and 11 in City Market. This event will begin with a summit that will have experts on food systems who will discuss our communities and impacts on NC’s most pressing issues like childhood obesity and access to fresh and healthy foods. That night there will be a food festival and it will be a chance for people to sample food from some of the state’s most accomplished chefs. It will include chefs from 50 different restaurants. The evening will be fun with the purpose of doing good for the community. On May 11 there will be a community service event focused on expanding access to healthy foods.

They will have more details in the next few weeks once we have them we will make sure to share them here. This event will allow people to get involved in a great cause. To stay up to date on Thrive NC follow them here.
