I got to check out 12 Bones while visiting Asheville. The smokehouse is located in the arts district by the river. When I got there at 1:30, well past the lunch hour there was still a line out the door. Good things come to those who wait, right?
While waiting in line, you are greeted with a sign with very specific directions on how to order and what the expectations are. I kind of loved it!
Each day they have different rib flavors. Today the options were Brown Sugar, Blueberry Chipotle and RC Sauce. I went with the RC sauce since it was made with RC Cola. How could you go wrong with that? I ended up getting 6 bones (half a rack) instead of 12. I was sad that I didn’t get the full 12. Next time I will know better. They were delicious.
On to the sides. I love pickled okra and they just so happened to have a pickled okra salad on the menu. It was served with tomatoes, peppers and onions. Yummy! I asked for a suggestion on the second side and the greens were recommended. They were the most amazing greens I have ever had. I would go back again just for the greens.
I will go back to visit again to visit next time we are in Asheville. This was a great casual place to visit with amazing food. It is no wonder President Obama is rumored to visit each time he visits.
