Pinpoint Restaurant is a Coastal Community Restaurant that showcases the bounty of Wilmington. The restaurant is located at 114 Market Street in Wilmington. The concept is to serve food rooted in Southern tradition. The menu changes based on the local available seafood. With accolades like the Best Fine Dining Restaurant by Wilmington magazine and Best New Southern Restaurants by Southern Living in 2016 we were really excited to check out Pinpoint.
What we had to eat:
Oysters (Raw) – White Stone from Virginia, Swansboro from the great state of North Carolina and Kussi from Washington. They were served with Champagne mignonette, Satsuma granita and cocktail sauce. They were also served with crackers which were amazing. We also tried the baked oyster which was served with NC shrimp, chillis, panko and palm oil.
Butterbean Hummus with shaved radish, feta, green tomatoes and olive oil. It was served with a focaccia bread. This stuff was out of this world. Some of the best hummus you will have.
Roasted Sweet Potato and Pecan Soup served with toasted coconut and roasted apple. Yum!
Spinach Salad with Asian pear, candied pecans, Asher blue cheese served with apple butter. I personally think every salad should be served with apple butter. The star of this salad was the Asher blue cheese. Yum.
Anthony had the cornmeal crusted catfish which was prepared with leek creamed grits, bok choy, and green tomato slaw. So good!
And if all that wasn’t enough we had the flourless brownie sundae served with dandelion root ice cream. Oh my goodness! What a perfect ending to a wonderful meal.
Chef Dean Neff and team does a terrific job at highlighting foods rooted in Southern tradition. The service was friendly and helpful as they made suggestions on what to try and explained the menu. The meal was amazing and it is worth the drive from Raleigh. Hopefully the next time we go back we will be able to grab some of Pastry Chef, Lydia Clopton’s, delicious treats at her new bakery which is scheduled to open in 2018.
