The San Diego Zoo is 102 years old this year. Older than the zoo are these amazing Galapagos Tortoises that were likely in their early thirties when they joined the zoo. It was amazing to think of the changes these animals saw not only to the zoo but also the the world around them. They were active and even ‘competing’ for food – by seeing who could raise their head the highest.
To put it into perspective – this jet flying over San Diego would have put the entire world into a panic when these guys were in their teens. The first flight didn’t happen until 1903 and they would have been born a little over a decade before.
