This year’s Kirby Derby was held at Dix Park’s Harvey Hill on Saturday, August 26. In the past the event was held in the Pullen Park Terrace neighborhood. This year it was part of Y’all At Dix Park which is a concert series. The event features live local music, local food trucks, and beverages. The change in venue didn’t change the fun derby and added lots of great music.
The event consists of a pine-car derby for the kids, a parade and the highlight is the soap box derby. This year’s theme was Sixteen Candles to celebrate Kirby Derby’s 16 years. The participants created their cars based on the theme. My personal favorite car from this year – the huge cake.
Kudos to everyone for the great event. Can’t wait to see what next year’s theme will be.
