#FOODBANK24

#FOODBANK24 is the official Twitter hashtag of the 24-Hour Telethon hosted by the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. We attended the Social Media Mixer that kicked off the event and got a whole new appreciation for the Food Bank and what they do for our area.

The mission of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is to harness and supply resources so that no one goes hungry in central and eastern North Carolina.

Established in 1980, the Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties for 30 years. The Food Bank serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults through warehouses in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, the Sandhills (Southern Pines) and Wilmington.

Sadly, hunger remains a serious problem in central and eastern North Carolina. In these counties, more than 500,000 struggle each day to provide enough food for their families.

Yes – the event was a lot of fun and helped raise money and awareness for the Food Bank by buying raffle tickets. While all the money raised was great the fight isn’t over. The good news is you can still donate and if it will make you feel better you can watch the entire 24-hour event in about three minutes.

The image to the right? The face painter put this on a girl’s arm. I’ll let you guess what it is.
