The Great American Shopping Mall a place of varied commerce and a social hub for those young and old who may meet friends at an arcade or walk early in a climate-controlled environment. These behemoth buildings were slowly becoming relics in a world where home delivery happens almost on demand. With COVID in-person shopping is taking a hit and those places that were already on the ropes are giving up and closing their doors.
Cary Towne Center was already in decline before the virus started. After flirting with IKEA and a couple of thoughtful redesigns the mall is officially closing just shy of its 42nd anniversary.
We’re told what’s next will be EPIC. We don’t know any details but we’re looking forward to seeing what they do.
