We’ve been running a lot lately you’d think we’d be better at it. Then again – as often as not it is about supporting the charity hosting the race as it is having a standout time. And yes – I will keep telling myself that until I believe it.
The Foundation of Hope was established in 1984, through Thad and Alice Eure’s commitment to find cures for mental illness. The Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to funding breakthroughs in the treatment of mental illness.
To date, The Foundation of Hope has given over $3.1 million in ongoing and new research, treatment and the development of researchers through the University of North Carolina and its affiliated program. This “seed money” has leveraged an additional $100 million in National Institutes of Mental Health funds.
Overall it is a great race for a great charity – you can tell that this was the first year they did the competitive part but that isn’t really what this one is all about. I guess I just like it when someone hands me water and I don’t have to look for it at the water stop. Picky? A little but after those hills I wasn’t in a great place to play hide-n-seek.
