On Sunday, September 27, we attended Farmstock. This annual event brings together farmers, chefs, brewers and friends who support farm entrepreneurs and local sustainable food systems. The event was held at Raleigh City Farm whose mission is to grow new urban farms and farm entrepreneurs to strengthen sustainable, healthy food systems.
This year they had gumbo 4 ways- seafood, chicken, veggie and lamb. The veggie gumbo was prepared by Chef Scott Crawford of Standard Foods. The Seafood Gumbo was prepared by Chef Tom Armstrong of Vinnie’s Steakhouse and Tavern. The Lamb and Sausage gumbo was made by Chef Dave Mitchell of the Busy Bee. The Chicken Gumbo was made by Chef John Ford of Cameron Bar and Grill. Each highlighted local ingredients.
Breweries included Plenty, New Belgium, Trophy and Southern Pines Brewery. I tried the Mango Peppercorn Saison from Plenty and it was great.
They had lots of great music and entertainment throughout the evening. Despite the rain, there was lots of fun and good food for all to enjoy. I a looking forward to next year’s event.
