My introduction to Carolina Kettle brand chips was a couple of years ago at a Place at the Table. If you like a really crunchy chip these are for you! They are some of the best chips you can find. My favorite is the dill flavor. I decided to do a little digging to find out where the chips were from and was pleased to find out that they are a local company.
I got to speak with Josh Monahan, the owner, and here is why you want to eat Carolina Kettle brand chips. Josh grew up in the food business. He went to NC State and he wanted to stay in the food business. After researching they realized that there were no regional kettle chip companies so they thought that this would be a good opportunity. The Carolina Brand falls under the company 1 in 6 Snacks. It is called 1 in 6 snacks because 1 in 6 people in this country don’t know where their next meal is coming from. A portion of their proceeds goes back to local food banks. They donate .05 for every 2-ounce bag of chips sold.
So about the chips…. They cook them in small batch kettles in 100 % sunflower oil. They have lots of different flavors- Honey Siracha, Dill Pickle, Salt and Vinegar, Jalapeño Queso, Coastal Crab, Cream Cheese and Chive, Rosemary Garlic, Carolina BBQ, and Carolina Sea Salt. My personal favs are the Dill Pickle and Salt and Vinegar. They have so much flavor and are delicious. Also they are extra crunchy which makes them some of the best chips around.
They have an office in Raleigh located on Hillsborough Street across from the North Carolina State Fairgrounds where you can get their chips. I got the mix and match combo where you get 12 bags of chips for $15. If you don’t live near Hillsborough Street you can use their chip locator to find the location nearest to you.
Next time you need a chip fix, make sure to check out Carolina Kettle brand chips. You won’t be disappointed and you will be eating chips for a great cause.
