We were looking for a short day trip from Raleigh and Wilson came up as a place to explore. Wilson is less than an hour from Raleigh and a great place to check out if you are looking to get out of town and do something different but don’t want to stay in a hotel or spend a lot of money. Here is our day trip itinerary:
Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park
This park in downtown Wilson has incredibly unique moving art and it is and free.
Casita Brewing Company
Immediately across the street from the park, this place is new and doing a great job brewing some excellent beer. Mr. Balihai is our great pick for a unique IPA.
Parker’s BBQ
If you head east you should seek out BBQ. Parker’s is old school, no-frills, as good as it gets.
Treat Yo’ Self Bakery
Sure you just ate a lot of BBQ but you knew to save room for dessert right? Now you do – stop by early if you want bread or pastries. Stop by in the afternoon for coffee and a sweet treat. Just don’t miss it.
