Shucked is one of my favorite Charleston Wine and Food Festival events. I think it is because it is distinctly Low-country. It is also held at a stunning location right on the water overlooking the Cooper River Bridge. Guests enjoy oysters until their heart is content. Love them steamed? They have em! Prefer them raw with Tabasco sauce? They gotcha covered.
The cool thing about this event is that it was part of a day of programming that is completely seafood and plant-forward in support of a food system that is more sustainable for our planet.
What we had to eat:
- Oyster stuffing which was a smoked oyster salad with cornbread, sweet onion grits, cornbread, and hollandaise sauce
- Crab roll with crab and mayo on a toasted roll
- Swordfish Tacos
- Raw Oysters
- Clammer Dave’s Oysters (more about Clammer Dave below)
What we had to drink:
Guinness, because this is the best drink to enjoy with seafood! And it is March so we are warming up for Saint Patrick’s Day.
One of the favorite things about Shucked is that you get to enjoy seafood from some of the best in the business. We enjoyed some of the best oysters from Clammer Dave! Dave Belanger (Clammer Dave) who has been farming clams and oysters for over 10 years in the barrier island waters along Capers Island Wildlife Refuge just north of Charleston. He uses sustainable practices where he grows oysters that have little impact on the environment.
If you are looking for a fun, relaxing Lowcountry signature event make sure to check out Shucked. It’s a tried and true event.
