This year marks 150 years of the North Carolina State Fair. Many things have stayed the same but this year marks a new addition – beer. This year was the first year you can try beer at the NC State Fair. Beer can be purchased at the Our State Public House which is located in Heritage Circle near the mill. This is in partnership with the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild.
For $10 you can enjoy a flight of 4 different North Carolina beers. The pours are 4 ounces each so it really is a sample size. Options included
- Light: Crisp, light-bodied beers.
- Dark: Full-bodied, sweeter beers ranging from amber to brown.
- Hoppy: Pale ales and IPAs showcasing hop flavor and aroma.
I opted for the Hoppy option. My samples were Locksley from Mystery, Pale Ale from Sierra Nevada, Daycation from Highland and Hop on Top from Lynwood. The beer was great and I loved being able to try the local beverages.
Other new things included a Thanksgiving egg roll. It had turkey, potatoes and stuffing. It was good but I prefer my egg rolls with cabbage.
Congrats to the North Carolina State Fair on 150 years! I love the annual tradition and all the deep fried goodness. I can’t wait to see what new things we get to try next year.
