Griffith Park & Observatory

Griffith Park is a large municipal park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains, in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park covers 4,310 acres of land, making it one of the largest urban parks in North America. It is the second-largest city park in California, after Mission Trails Preserve in San Diego, and the 11th largest municipally owned park in the United States. It has also been referred to as the Central Park of Los Angeles but is much larger, more untamed, and rugged than its New York City counterpart. [SOURCE]

Why start this string of posts about Disneyland in Griffith Park? This is where the magic really started. Walt Disney sat on a bench in this park and conceived the idea of his own amusement park. So this seemed like a fitting place to start our journey as well.

After a tough time finding a place to park and a short hike we visited the Griffith Observatory and saw great views of the city and the famous Hollywood sign. The park is beautiful and the observatory is amazing. It is definitely a place that rivals Disneyland in the scenery and unique attractions. If you are headed to L.A. – this is a great place to stop and visit. Next time we’ll try to find a way to stay longer.
