Heading down I-95 we had to make a quick stop at what should be America’s favorite roadside attraction but maybe has become the forgotten gem from a long time ago. This place is an amazing time capsule of an era where the journey and the stops along the way were as great as the destination itself. And with a few minutes to spare on our way South we dropped in for a quick visit.

First stop? Pedro’s Mexico Shop West. This is home to the Hats Around the World Boutique and of course this large camel. T looks not impressed.

The big find? Not the hats but the SOCKS. Had to snag a pair with the iconic Sombrero Tower on it.

We did eventually find something T liked – the Jackalope. And yes – it has been around a while – this is from a 2010 visit. New paint – same bunny.

With empty stores and parking lots you have to wonder which stop will be the one where the once vibrant stop becomes a ghost town of broken neon and faded signs. Until then we’ll likely get caught in its net just to see the unusual history that is South of the Border.
