If these words are familiar you’ve likely ridden one of the best rides in the Disney Parks the Haunted Mansion. There are multiple versions of this attraction in several parks that have slight variations on the theme of not quite scary and not quite humorous using classic visual effects like Pepper’s Ghost to create their spirits and drawing inspiration from places like the Winchester Mystery House. You can find haunted mansions in Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.
This lego set celebrates the original ride in Disneyland (sorry WDW fans) which has its own unique journey from start to finish taking over a decade to complete. The build was fun and while mini builds always mean smaller pieces it does have some unique details including an open back where you can see the dining room with waltzing ghosts and paintings of the Hitchhiking Ghosts, Madame Leota, and the Gravekeeper. The Bulter Minifigure is dressed in his cast member best and looks ready to welcome you to join the 999 happy haunts. There’s room for 1,000. Any volunteers?
The set is great – a must-buy if you are a Disney fan and even more if you love the Haunted Manion. If I were going to make a few suggestions. I’d love to see a Maid Minifigure – the butler is nice but if you ride the ride you are more likely to encounter a Maid than a Butler. It would also have been really cool to incorporate the Hatbox Ghost. Other than the exterior of the building this part of the attraction is unique to Disneyland and something that just recently reappeared in the attraction. I really like the models in this scale and hope we see more of them in the future.
Maybe we can hope for a modular scale set of the Haunted Mansion in the Magic Kingdom? I wouldn’t even be upset if you added a Hatbox Ghost on vacation from California. I mean – this would look great in my Lego village – right?
