If you find yourself in La Jolla make sure to spend some time at UC San Diego. There are lots of cool spots to check out on campus.
The first stop is the Geisel Library. It is named in honor of Audrey and Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. The building opened in 1970. The building is designed to look like hands holding up a stack of books. The library is open to the public, and visitors are welcome to explore the building’s 1st and 2nd Floors. If you are there during the summer, you can see some of Dr. Seuss’ artwork on display which was really cool. There is also a neat statue of the Cat in the Hat in front of the building that honors Dr. Seuss.
Behind the library, you will find Fallen Star. This is a really cool art installation by a South Korean artist Do Ho Suh. It is a house coming out the side of the Engineering Building. The building opened in 2012. The art installation explores the notions of home, cultural displacement, one’s perception of space and how one builds a memory of it. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-2 for visitors.
If you love architecture you definitely need to visit these two spots at UC San Diego.
