We recently took a road trip from Raleigh to Saxapahaw, North Carolina. It is a quaint town located on the Haw River. The town is located in Alamance County near Graham and has approximately 2000 residents. It is about a 45-minute ride from downtown Raleigh. Why visit Saxapahaw? There are lots of great reasons to visit. Here are just a few.
The General Store
The store opened in 2008 and offers fresh local produce and as a good general store would have a little this and a little of that. They have a kitchen where you can order lunch. We tried the emu burger and an oyster po boy. They were both great.
Left Bank Butchery
After you are done eating lunch you will want to stop by to get something for dinner. We ended up picking up a few steaks, bacon and sausages.
Left Bank’s philosophy is to use the whole animal because it is respectful to the animal and it helps support small scale farmers. If you are not headed home right away you can get an ice pack at the store.
Cup 22
Cup 22 is the coffee shop located at the Haw River Ballroom. They have a great cup of coffee and a great view of the Haw River. Make sure to stop by for an afternoon pick me up.
Next time you want to get out of town consider taking a day trip to Saxapahaw. You will have a great day.
