At home it is just easier to brew a cup and keep moving. The luxury of a visit to a coffee shop – particularly a really good coffee shop (sorry Starbucks) is a rarity at best. It’s no wonder we felt like we had an ace up our sleeve on our recent trip to Dallas. We hit a terrific line-up and as we go through the pictures and reflect coffee was definitely a theme of the long weekend that kept us moving on some very packed days. From strong rich flavors to latte art we explored a few of the more caffeinated areas around town.
Houndstooth Coffee – What started as an affinity for coffee and coffee shop culture has grown into a love for sharing quality beverages with anyone and everyone. As a locally owned and operated business, Houndstooth Coffee seeks to be an integral pattern in the fabric of the Texas Coffee community.
We started here on Friday morning and had a brewed to order cup of Counter Culture Coffee. It was a great way to wake-up and start the day and from the look of the shop a great place to sit inside or out and enjoy your morning or afternoon. It appeared to be a popular stop for folks that had just finished cross fit next door.
Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters – Coffee has been a part of my life since I was old enough to reach the mugs from the top cabinet (with help from a step stool).
We had their coffee at Travis & Claire’s house and stopped by their new shop in Deep Ellum for their soft opening. Excellent coffee and really nice folks running the shop. We got a quick peek at the back of the house and talked a bit about their plans for the location. This is less of a coffee shop and more of a serious coffee roaster and it shows. You can order their coffee on their website if you are interested.
Ascension Coffee (Crescent) – Ascension began in December 2012, after a year spent researching and developing the concept: an Australian style coffee shop with simple European-café-type food and a laid-back, familiar atmosphere.
We visited The Crescent location of Ascension Coffee having visited their Dallas Design District shop on a earlier trip. Nothing beats an afternoon coffee unless it comes with a coconut macaroon. This was a great stop despite the lack of sidewalks making it a little more difficult to reach.
I would recommend any of these stops for a quick cup or a bag of beans. They span an array of different styles and types with a single constant theme – really good coffee. If you find yourself in Dallas use the map below to find what you think would best fit your palate and enjoy.
