So we finally got a chance to eat at Brewery Bhavana last weekend. I know. What took us so long? We had been in for the beer which is amazing but just hadn’t got a chance to eat there yet. I guess that it is to be expected after they were named one of America’s Best New Restaurants in 2017 by bon appetit magazine. I love that Andrew Knowlton was skeptical about a restaurant like this in Raleigh! (Make sure to check out Andrew Knowlton’s write up here.) I love that Vanvisa and Vansana Nolintha, owners of Brewery Bhavana, were able to prove to him that there is good food outside of San Francisco.
So what did we have to eat?
SEAFOOD DUMPLING
four lobster, shrimp, scallop, and cabbage dumplings served in garlic and black mushroom sauce
XIAO LONG BAO SOUP DUMPLING
four steamed crab and ground pork soup dumplings
NASI GORING CRAB FRIED RICE
Malaysian-Chinese crab fried rice with house-made Nasi Goring spice; served in an egg crepe
PORK BELLY RICE CAKES
stir-fried rice cakes with herbs, Sichuan peppercorn, and braised pork belly
VEGETABLE CURRY PUFF (Vegetarian)
three baked pastries filled with curried, cauliflower, spinach, and sweet potato
EDAMAME & GINGER DUMPLING (Vegan)
four pan-seared vegetable dumplings
My favorite by far was the Seafood Dumpling. It was amazing! That black mushroom sauce was so good. My Crab Fried Rice was really good too. The egg crepe that it was served in made it really amazing. I would love to know how they make this!
So was it worth they hype? I think so! The dumplings were amazing and the beer is great. Not to mention the space is beautiful. You almost forget you are sitting in the old Tiranog:) One of the other things I love is the price point. It is reasonably priced as well so almost anyone can afford to eat here which is awesome.
