Prime Barbecue – Knightdale

Prime Barbecue is located in Knightdale and thanks to the highway it is just a short drive from Raleigh. Their concept is to bring together the best of all great BBQ techniques to create something uniquely its own.

They use great meats and season them well and smoke with hardwood which makes for the very best dishes. The owner, Christopher Prieto, grew up in Texas so you will see some familiar things like brisket, Shiner beers, and Topo Chico.

What we had to eat:
I opted for the Frito Pie. It is a sausage and brisket chili li topped with cheese and pickled onions served on Fritos. This is a special menu item only available on certain days.
Anthony opted for the Full Nelson which is a sandwich with a Beef rib, sliced house-made sausage, pulled pork, slaw, and pickled onion, served with a house sauce.

We also got a side of the sweet potato salad to share. The food was so yummy. I loved the element of pickled onions. It just gave a burst of flavor to the dish.

I’m not gonna lie. Anthony ordered better than me this time. The chili was great but next time I am going in for the Full Nelson.

We got a tour of the pit and we got to chat with the owner Chris a bit. One of the great things they do, besides having wonderful food, is work with veterans. Many of the staff members there have worked in the military. They also give veterans a discount.
