Saltbox Seafood Joint is a staple in Durham. Their concept is seasonal seafood, freshly cooked. Chef Rickey Moore is an icon in his own right. We have tried his food at the Charleston Wine and Food Festival and it is great. His belief is that ordinary, simple food can be extraordinary when executed at the highest level. So it was about time that we finally went to Durham to the Saltbox Seafood Joint. We went to the Old Five Points location which opened in 2012.
What we had to eat: I ordered the grouper with the ”S.S.J.” Slaw, shredded cabbage, vegetables, herbs & citrus dressing. I also ordered the Hushhoneys which are fried cornmeal fritters with glazed honey. Oh my goodness this was the perfect seafood lunch. I enjoyed everything but the hush-honeys are my absolute favorite.
