A Place at the Table opened this week. It is located at 300 West Hargett Street in the old Cafe de los Muertos space. They are open Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 2 pm.
The concept is awesome. It is a pay what you can cafe. So how does it work? You have a few different options:
- Pay what you can afford.
- Pay what you would typically pay for a similar meal. (They have a suggested donation)
- Pay what you would typically pay, plus an extra donation.
- Pay specifically for someone else’s full meal.
- Pay by volunteering.
Think this is a new concept? Nope. There are over 60 pay what you can restaurants in the One World Everyone Eats Network. The premise for the restaurant is simple, provide the community with healthy food regardless of means.
What’s on the menu?
We went for lunch. I had an amazing salad with roasted veggies, quinoa, goat cheese, and a white balsamic vinaigrette. They have a variety of sandwiches like smokey chipotle pimento cheese and a Caprese panini that sounded good too.
The breakfast entrees include sundried tomato and basil egg omelets and a chai spiced waffle. Yum!
The food was great and the concept is awesome. If you are looking to grab a bite to eat in downtown Raleigh and do some good for the community make sure to stop by A Place at the Table.
