We finally got a chance to see the Extreme Mammals Exhibit at the Natural Science. You will be able to see some of the biggest, smallest and most amazing mammals of all time. The exhibit was organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York. It was in collaboration with the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco; Canadian Museum of Nature, Ottawa, Canada; and Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
When you enter the exhibit you are greeted by a giant Indricotherium, which is the largest land mammal known to date. Unfortunately this guy is now extinct.
As you wander through the exhibit you will learn what defines a mammal. Some of the characteristics are fur, warm blooded, produce milk, and don’t hatch from eggs. Although these are some of the characteristics to really look at, to really define a mammal you need to look at their evolutionary history. This exhibit takes you through the various stages of a mammal’s evolutionary history.
