We had the privilege of experiencing “Brood Awakening,” a remarkable art installation at Walnut Creek Wetland Park. Created by Raleigh-based artists Katie Stewart and Jay Ross, this immersive art walk blended creativity, environmental education, and food to highlight the park’s rich history and ecological importance.
Spanning October 27 to November 3, “Brood Awakening” offered visitors the chance to explore the park’s trails and discover interactive sculptures showcasing native species. The artwork transformed from vibrant displays during the day into glowing, enchanting installations at night, creating an entirely different experience after sunset.
One of the most captivating aspects of “Brood Awakening” was how seamlessly it integrated into the park’s landscape. The sculptures didn’t just complement the environment—they actively educated visitors about the significance of Walnut Creek Wetland Park and its native species.
We had an incredible time exploring the trails and taking in the stunning displays. Each sculpture felt alive, both visually and thematically, reminding us of the delicate relationship between humans and nature. Seeing the installations glow at night was unforgettable—a true highlight of the visit.
Although “Brood Awakening” has now concluded, its impact lingers. Events like this remind us of the importance of spaces like Walnut Creek Wetland Park—not just as places for recreation but as hubs of education and inspiration. The collaboration between art and nature in this exhibit was truly special, and we hope to see more initiatives like it in the future.
