Sitting just outside of Sparta, NC the Twin Oaks General Store and Cafe is a great place to stop for either a bag of ice or a sandwich. When we stopped we got a surprisingly good chicken salad melt with ‘buffalo’ chips. Side of ranch dressing? You know it.
The hot dog mascot in front of the store is pretty awesome and gives the otherwise unremarkable place a bit of recognizable charm.
So if you happen to be on Highway 221 near Sparta around lunch or breakfast I suggest stopping in. You can even order cottage cheese as a vegetable.
