The s’more’s long yet vague history, dates back at least to 1927 when a recipe for the more formally designated “some mores” appeared in Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts, a helpful tome which also includes instructions for building 12 different kinds of campfires.

I am a fan of the classic S’mores dessert – a roasted marshmallow with melted chocolate on a graham cracker. I like to add peanut butter or swap the traditional Hersey bar with a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. I mean why not kick things up a little? Or why not kick things up a lot by turning the S’more into an adult beverage? This is my take on the classic dessert kicked up a bit that is perfect for the campfire or the cocktail party.
Recipe:
- 2 Parts Peanut Butter Whiskey (roughly 2 fl oz) – we used SQRRL
- 1 Part Toasted Marshmallow Simple Syrup
- Large Cube of Ice (Why not the Death Star?)
- 75/25 Mix of Sugar/Cocoa to Rim Glass
- Toasted Marshmallow Garnish
- Optional: “Big Bear” Bitters from Crude Bitters to taste
Simple Syrup Directions:
- Mix 1 Cup Sugar with 1 Cup Water and bring to a boil.
- Let sugar water mix simmer for 5 minutes to completely dissolve sugar.
- Add 8-10 Marshmallows toasted with a gas stove burner or a kitchen torch.
- Try not to burn your Marshmallows but don’t worry if you do. It will create small flecks in your syrup but not impact the taste.
- Let the mix simmer for 3-5 minutes to make sure everything is dissolved.
- When cool add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
