After being at Lewis Barbecue the night before for the Nassau Street Saloon, we wanted to go grab lunch during a break in the CHSWFF action. It was the perfect Charleston afternoon to sit outside and enjoy this epic feast.
First a little bit about Lewis Barbecue. The restaurant is named after John Lewis. John grew up in Texas which is the style of ‘que you will find here. John’s resume includes helping Aaron Franklin open his place in Austin.
John then partnered with LeAnn Mueller to open La Barbecue in Austin in 2012 where he was voted the “Best BBQ in Austin” by the Austin American Statesman. He decides to pack up and move to Charleston and Lewis Barbecue opened in June 2016.
Ok, enough about John and how awesome he is. Let’s get to the good stuff – the food. Here is what we had to eat:
- Prime Beef Brisket Sandwich
- El Sancho – Pulled pork or chopped beef with hot guts sausage and pickled red onion
- Coleslaw
- Green Chile Corn Pudding
- Banana Pudding
Everything was so good! I am going to say this and don’t hate me but my favorite thing on my plate was the pickles. The brisket was amazing too but for some reason, I loved the pickles. Anywhoo, if you find yourself in Charleston make sure to stop by Lewis Barbecue and enjoy some Texas-style deliciousness (and ask for extra pickles).
In case you missed it in the earlier post – here is the pic we took last night in the smoker.
