Dutch Baby

One of my favorite TV Shows (Bob’s Burgers) and one of my favorite YouTube creators (Food Wishes) have both featured a culinary delight that I had never tried – a Dutch Baby. So what exactly is a Dutch Baby? I asked Google – “A Dutch baby pancake, sometimes called a German pancake, a Bismarck, or a Dutch puff, is a sweet popover that is normally served for breakfast. It is derived from the German Pfannkuchen.” Then I made one and I’d pretty much say – it is awesome.

I’ve added the video below and while most YouTube videos make things look easy that really aren’t or leave steps out to make themselves look better this video does not. It is as easy as it looks as long as you understand simple steps like clarifying butter and what room temperature means. Otherwise it is very easy and more importantly – delicious.

Next time I might add a little sugar to the recipe. Until I added syrup it wasn’t sweet enough for my palate. Not bad for a first try and definitely had the flaky/custard consistency that you see in the video. Goes to show that sometimes you can believe what you see on TV and YouTube.
