When I got the email, I thought I won the lottery. I had been trying for a few months to actually get some of this ice cream and the time was finally here. Don’t Tell Mother is a small batch underground ice cream outfit based in Durham. Flavors include seasonal produce offerings from local farmers. Logan has worked as a pastry chef and this is his outlet to share fun flavors for everyone to enjoy, well everyone that is quick on the email:) So how do get your hands on this ice cream? Get on their email list. Logan periodically sends emails out and you can request pints. They are first-come, first-served so you need to be quick. Word on the street that it sells out. Sometimes in minutes!
What we tried:
Hokey Pokey – This is New Zealand’s signature flavor. It’s made with vanilla, vanilla bean, and hokey pokey (the kiwi name for honeycomb toffee). The honeycomb is made with local honey instead of just sugar. This ice cream is fully amazing. If you like something really sweet this flavor is for you. I absolutely loved it! And I am so glad I got 2 pints of this one.
What we have in our freezer:
Mint Eucalyptus Chip – Three varieties of fresh mint team up with dried eucalyptus and fresh chamomile and are infused into this startlingly herbal ice cream spiked with a splash of Tempus Fugit Creme de Menthe. Scattered throughout are thin shards of Valrhona Manjari 64% chocolate. Bright and refreshing, it’s an elevated classic.
We can’t wait to try out the mint! Sign up to get the emails here. And may the odds forever be in your favor.
