Der Biergarten in Cary just recently opened. They are located in the old Dean’s Seafood at 1080 Darrington Drive. The concept? They want to pay homage to the German culture by offering various German menu items and a selection of German beers on tap and in the bottle.
A biergarten is an outdoor area in which beer and local food are served, typically at shared tables surrounded with games for entertainment. The space feels just like that with a custom made trellis and tables. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a beer and a meal with friends and family.
One of the things I loved about the restaurant is how truly welcoming they are for families with children. You may hear kids yelling, “I found it!” They hid five gnomes in the dining room space. If the kids find all five they get a smores kit to roast over the open flames in the dining room. Such a cool way to keep kids entertained while enjoying a drink and a meal!
Oh yeah about the meal, the food is great. We had a pretzel with A-MAZING mustard that they make in house. It is huge and was a perfect starter. We also tried the sauerkraut balls. These things were awesome. They take cabbage and use a hushpuppy batter and make deep fried goodness. It is the perfect marriage of the south and Germany. For dinner we got the sausage platter and chicken and waffles. The chicken was a buttermilk fried chicken breast with cornmeal waffle and honey. It was served with a braised red cabbage which was a show stopper. The sausage platter came with 3 types of sausages- kielbasa, bratwurst, and mettwurst. It was served with sauerkraut, potatoes and the in-house amazing mustard. Everything we tried was great.
They plan on having lawn parties when it gets a bit warmer where they will have a fire pit and lawn games like corn hole. Eventually they will even have a play space for the kids.
They want to be your first choice for any gatherings and after dining there I can safely say that this is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a pint and great meal. Check out Der Biergarten here.
