I finally had a chance to visit the Funkatorium in Asheville. This is Wicked Weed’s taproom that is dedicated to sours and funky beers. I opted for a flight so I could try a few types of beer.
I sampled the following beers:
- The Parking Lot Grissette which is described as a tart farmhouse ale. This beer was brewed in collaboration with Jester King Brewery out of Texas.
- Marina is described as a blonde sour ale. It is aged in wine barrels with peaches and apricots.
- Oblivion is a sour red ale with blackberries and dates. It is also aged in wine barrels for up to one year.
- And last, but not least, I tried the Myrtille. This is a golden sour ale aged with North Carolina blueberries.
My favorites were the Parking Lot Grissette and Marina. If you are a fan of sours you should make a stop at the Funkatorium the next time you are in Asheville. You won’t regret it.
