I-4 Eyesore

The Majesty Building on I-4 is hard to miss. The building stands tall over the adjacent highway and has been empty for as long as I can recall. Wikipedia says the 18-story, 300,000-square-foot building is a project of the religious independent TV station WACX.

Claud Bowers (CEO of the religious independent TV station WACX SuperChannel 55) commissioned the building, which is slated to hold broadcasting studios, along with office and retail space. The building has been financed without debt, with the help of donors and partners. The project’s cost is estimated to be over $40 million.

Construction began in January 2001. In 2003, Bowers stated that the building’s construction would be completed by the end of the year. The project’s completion date was later reported to be 2007, then moved back to 2017, and again pushed back to late 2018.

Construction resumed in 2018. At the end of summer 2019, the adjacent I-4 Ultimate project was cited as a source of additional delays. Construction continued with an expected completion date of fall 2022. Construction of the Majesty Building was still ongoing in November 2022.

As of last week, I don’t think the project is complete or close in 2024. Also, I am not sure I agree that the building is an “eyesore” I think it needs a little decoration. I mean – if I won the lottery I wouldn’t tell anyone but this might be a sign.

Not perfect but we can keep trying.
