Deep River Brewing holds claim as Clayton’s First “legal” brewery and sits on the edge of the quaint little downtown area. I’ve had their beer several times in Raleigh and when we were sitting at the intersection of I-40 and Highway 42 and saw the sign for Clayton I knew we were close. (Deep River makes the 4042 stout of which I am a fan.) We took the short ride over and were very impressed with what we found. The beers I had already tried in Raleigh we excellent and we found the new beers we sampled were just as good. I would compare the space to Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, NC on a smaller footprint.
It is worth the ride out – about 20 minutes from our house depending on traffic and so far I haven’t had a beer from Deep River I didn’t like. I highly recommend the 4042 Stout and the Backcountry Black IPA. Let me know if you are going to head over – I’ll send you with an empty growler and a wish list.
