The Piedmont Picnic Project is focused on the common love of food history and historical food practices. They offer monthly classes so I finally was able to check out the Yogurt class.
I went into the class thinking that yogurt would rather complicated. I found out that it may not be as difficult as I thought to make yogurt. In a nutshell, you take half a gallon of whole milk and heat it to 180 degrees. You then cool it to 115-110 degrees and whisk in your starter. Wrap the pot with a towel, place it in the oven with the light on and let it rest for at least 8 hours. The longer you leave it the tangier it will taste. If you want to add any flavors you do it after the fact.
And that my friends is how you make yogurt! I can’t wait to try it out for myself. Thanks to the ladies at Piedmont Picnic, I had a great morning learning a new skill. Check out their upcoming classes here.
