In looking for ways to save time in the new year, I decided to check out Harris Teeter’s Express Lane. Basically you shop online, select your items, pull up to the store and pick up your groceries. You don’t even have to get out of your car. Sounds awesome doesn’t it? I would say for my first visit it worked great.

A few of my items were unavailable so I received a call from the personal shopper with suggested substitutions. I went with her suggestions which worked out great.

There is a fee for the service. Grocery pickup is just $4.95 per order or you can get a 30 day subscription for just $16.95. You can even spring for annual subscription for $99.95. Your first visit is free so you can try it out for yourself.

So the big question is it worth it? I would say it just depends on how much you value your time. I thought it was great to pull up and have someone bring the groceries out to the car in just 5 minutes. One of things that was nice as well was to comparison shop online a bit more. I also thought it was nice I did not get distracted and buy anything I didn’t really need. I focused on what I needed for the week so maybe I saved some money by not making any impulse purchases.

I say for the $5 per order it is worth it. You should definitely try it out yourself since your first visit is free. The only thing you may miss by not going in the store is your free cookie.
